Frequently Asked Questions
What is Moss & Moon Adventures?
Moss & Moon Adventures is a story-driven adventure experience for curious children and their families. Each adventure invites your child into a living world of story, letters, missions, characters, collectibles, and real-world discovery.
It is part storybook, part educational journey, part keepsake experience, designed to help children grow in wonder, curiosity, courage, character, and connection.
—— ✦ ——
Is Moss & Moon Adventures a subscription box?
Not exactly. While adventures may arrive in monthly installments, Moss & Moon Adventures is not designed to feel like an ordinary subscription box.
It is a collectible adventure universe. Each delivery is part of a larger story arc, with letters, missions, character moments, badges, field notes, and keepsake pieces that build over time. The goal is not just to receive “things,” but to feel chosen for an unfolding adventure.
—— ✦ ——
What age is Moss & Moon Adventures for?
Moss & Moon Adventures is created especially for children ages 5–9+, with sibling options for 3-4 year olds (we don't want anyonne left out). There are layered experiences for different ages.
Younger children can enjoy the stories as read-aloud adventures, complete simple missions with help, draw their responses, and participate through imagination and play. Early readers can begin reading pieces independently, writing short responses, and completing activities with growing confidence. Older adventurers can go deeper through journaling, puzzles, nature study, creative projects, and more independent exploration.
—— ✦ ——
How does the adventure journey work?
Each adventure begins with a story episode that introduces a new moment, mystery, problem, or discovery within the adventure world.
Then, a character writes directly to your child, inviting them to help. Your child receives a mission packet filled with story-connected activities, field notes, creative prompts, puzzles, observations, or challenges. After completing the mission, your child writes, draws, reports, or responds back into the adventure world.
Over time, your child collects character cards, badges, stamps, map pieces, notes, and keepsakes that become part of their larger adventure record.
—— ✦ ——
Are the activities outdoors?
Some activities may invite your child outdoors to notice, collect, observe, sketch, listen, wonder, or explore the natural world but every activity can also be done indoors.
Moss & Moon Adventures is designed to bring more curiosity and real-world discovery into childhood, while still being flexible for weather, seasons, location, and family rhythm. Many missions can be completed indoors, at a kitchen table, by a window, in a backyard, on a walk, or during a special family outing.
—— ✦ ——
Do we have to do the full year?
No. Families can begin with one adventure, one season, or one month at a time.
Each adventure always starts with chapter one, with final recognition/certification at the end of the full 12 month adventure.
Each Moss & Moon series is designed as a larger journey, so completing the full arc gives your child the richest experience, with story progression, character connection, collectibles, badges, and a keepsake adventure record that builds over time. But you do not have to commit to a full year to begin.
You are welcome to step into the story at the pace that works best for your family.
—— ✦ ——
What if I forget to mail my child’s letter back?
That is perfectly okay. The magic is meant to support your family, not add pressure.
Your child can still complete the mission, save their letter, tuck it into their adventure record, place it in their Adventure Mailbox, or send it later. If a reply does not reach their outgoing Adventure Mailbox or us, the child will still receive a letter back from the character thanking them and updating them of the journey and how their help was crucial. The full experience is for the child to feel liek their is a pen-pal relationship throughout the whole adventure.
In Moss & Moon, late letters are not failures - they are simply letters that took the scenic route. Technically we won't know.
—— ✦ ——
What comes in each adventure?
Each adventure may include a story episode, a character letter, a mission packet, field notes or discovery page, a collectible character card, a child response activity, a badge or progress marker, a family challenge, and a parent or teacher guide.
The exact contents may vary by series, but every piece is designed to feel connected to the story, not like a random worksheet or activity page.
—— ✦ ——
Is this a curriculum?
Moss & Moon Adventures is not a traditional curriculum, and it is not meant to replace school.
It is a story-rich educational experience that complements learning at home, homeschool settings, classrooms, co-ops, or family life. Children explore literacy, nature studies, character development, creative expression, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, family connection, and real-world discovery... but through the feeling of being inside an adventure.
—— ✦ ——
What will my child learn?
Every Moss & Moon adventure is built around meaningful learning pillars, including literacy and language, nature studies, STEM and problem-solving, character development, emotional intelligence, creative expression, family connection, and real-world skills.
The child may think they are solving a mystery, helping a character, writing a letter, observing a leaf, decoding a clue, or drawing a discovery, but underneath the magic, they are practicing real skills.
—— ✦ ——
Do parents need to prepare a lot?
No. Moss & Moon is designed to feel special without becoming overwhelming for families.
Each adventure includes emailed guidance for the grown-up, so you know what happens in the month ahead, what your child can do independently, and what might be fun to do together. Some families may make it a cozy weekly ritual, while others may complete the adventure in one or two special sittings. While we would love parents to read with the child, we understand you can't always do that when the child wants you to. There is an audio version of each chapter that can be played for the child.
—— ✦ ——
Can siblings do the adventure together?
Yes. Moss & Moon Adventures is especially lovely as a shared family experience.
Siblings can listen to the story together, complete missions at their own level, and each respond in their own way. Through writing, drawing, observing, building, or storytelling. Younger children may need more help, while older children can take on more independent roles.
One of the reasons Moss and Moon Adventures was created was so 3 of our children could experience the wonder and learning together, nobody left out, each with their own correspondance and Adventure Missions
—— ✦ ——
Does my child write back to the characters?
Yes. One of the most meaningful parts of the Moss & Moon experience is that your child is invited to respond. Like a real pen-pal experience. This was one of the first components of the Moss & Moon "vision".
They may write a letter, draw a picture, complete a mission report, send field notes, answer a character’s question, or share what they discovered. This helps children feel like their participation matters - because inside the story, it does. One of the first adventure missions is for the child to create a mailbox for their correspondence back to the Character. Mail to the child will arrive in your postal mailbox, where letters from your child are left in their special mailbox and the adventure universe "knows"; alternatively, the parent can post the letter to us.
—— ✦ ——
Is Moss & Moon screen-free?
Moss & Moon is designed as a beautiful alternative to screen-heavy childhood.
Some families may choose to use optional audio or digital access when available, but the heart of the experience is tactile, imaginative, and hands-on: letters, stories, maps, missions, drawing, writing, collecting, observing, and connecting as a family.
—— ✦ ——
Is there a faith-based version?
Moss & Moon Adventures begins with a universal values path, focused on courage, kindness, honesty, perseverance, empathy, gratitude, wonder, and character.
Optional biblical integration may be available for families who choose it. This faith layer is always family-directed and optional, never assumed or required.

Do you use AI to create Moss & Moon Adventures?
Moss & Moon Adventures is human-created, heart-led, and carefully reviewed.
Like many modern creative studios, we may use AI-assisted tools at times to support parts of the creative process, such as brainstorming, drafting, organizing, refining, or exploring visual direction.
Every story, letter, activity, character moment, and child-facing detail is shaped, edited, reviewed, and approved by real people who care deeply about childhood wonder, learning, safety, and emotional connection. AI may support some of the process, but the heart, direction, standards, and final decisions come from our creators.
—— ✦ ——
What makes Moss & Moon different?
Moss & Moon Adventures is built to feel timeless, personal, and meaningful.
It's a heros journey...
It's a pen-pal experience...
It is not loud, disposable, overly digital, or worksheet-heavy. It is designed to feel like a letter from somewhere extraordinary, filled with story, beauty, learning, character, and little details a child may want to keep for years.
—— ✦ ——
What is the first adventure world?
The first Moss & Moon adventure world is Whisperwood - an enchanted woodland world filled with guardians, letters, nature study, character lessons, hidden discoveries, and quiet magic. Your child has been selected to be a Guardian Apprentice, once they accept, Whisperwood begins.
Future adventure worlds will lead children into the stars, beneath the sea, across the world, through history, and into other realms of discovery.
—— ✦ ——
